Vijaya Bank was established in Mangalore on October 23, 1931. It was established with the aim of promoting banking habits, thrift and entrepreneurship among the farming community of Dakshina Kannada district in Karnataka. Vijaya bank became a scheduled bank in 1958 and was nationalised on April 15, 1980, as a part of the nationalisation of Indian banks.
The bank grew slowly and gradually and acquired 9 banks into it in the period between 1963-68. At present, Vijaya Bank has more than 12,500 employees. To take on the changing banking scenario and to compete with the growing private sector & foreign banks, Vijaya Bank has recently recruited young and dynamic workforce.
With a network of more than 1500 branches, 864 centers, 48 Extension Counters and 1500 ATMs , Vijaya Bank spans across 28 states and 4 union territories. All branches of the bank have the CBS (Core Banking Solution) platform, which covers almost 100% of the total business of the bank.
